Jilin province and Miyagi prefecture established a friendly relationship on June 1, 1987.

Miyagi is Japan's sixteenth largest prefecture. It is agricultural but also has a strong manufacturing industry, especially in electronics. Rice farming and fishing are also important.

Located in the southern part of the Tohoku region on the Pacific coast of northern Honshu, Miyagi borders Yamagata prefecture to the west and Fukushima prefecture to the south.

Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region, home to a bustling city center that is a pleasure to explore day or night. The prefectural capital has a population of around 1,086,000.

Mountains and sea, city and countryside, tradition and modernity -- all coexist comfortably here. Sendai, the cosmopolitan capital of Miyagi, sits at its center. Traveling outward, the city gives way to countryside and, near the prefectural borders, wilderness. To the west rise the Ōu Mountains, to the east lies the Pacific Ocean.

Miyagi is blessed with diverse natural landscapes that offer ideal settings for exhilarating outdoor adventures. From sandy beaches and craggy coasts to lush forests and misty peaks, the prefecture has it all within reach.
