Jilin power project advances clean energy delivery to Beijing

A major power project supporting the "Jilin Electricity to Beijing" initiative is underway in Da'an county, Northeast China's Jilin province.
The Da'an 2×660-megawatt thermal power peaking project, a key project under China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for power development, carries a total investment of 6.04 billion yuan ($845.6 million). The project, which began construction on Sept 4, will build two 660-MW ultra-supercritical units, with an annual designed power generation capacity of 5.28 billion kilowatt-hours.
The broader "Jilin Electricity to Beijing" project has a total investment of 59 billion yuan and covers thermal power, wind power, solar power, grids, and energy storage. It uses an ±800-kV ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission channel stretching about 1,000 kilometers from Baicheng to Beijing's Tongzhou district, enabling large-scale power transmission over long distances.
Led by Beijing Energy Holding Co, the project is scheduled to enter full operation in 2029. Once completed, it is expected to deliver 26.4 billion kWh of clean electricity to North China annually, cut standard coal consumption by more than 8 million metric tons, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 20 million metric tons.
The project will also create about 5,000 jobs, turning Da'an's abundant renewable energy resources into new economic momentum.
