China Optoelectronics City is emerging as a key hub for Changchun's modern metropolitan development and a strategic node for cultivating new and future industries in Jilin province.

Backed by more than 70 years of optical research, Changchun is turning its strength as China's "cradle of optics" into industrial momentum, with an expanding ecosystem covering optical materials, optoelectronic sensing, laser equipment, displays, satellite applications, and commercial aerospace.

Changchun Economic and Technological Development Zone serves as the core area of China Optoelectronics City. In the first seven months of this year, its optoelectronics output grew 21.3 percent, while the sector's share of the total output rose from 2.6 percent to 10.5 percent. The zone is also developing a "one city, seven parks" industrial layout, with four parks already in operation.

Leading companies including Gpixel Microelectronics Inc, Argo Space Technology Co, and Jlight Semiconductor Technology Co are strengthening the industrial ecosystem across different segments.

Changchun New Area, the city's major optoelectronics hub, is home to 367 related companies and focuses on four key clusters: satellite technology and applications, optoelectronic materials and displays, optoelectronic sensing and instruments, and laser technology and applications.

With support from research institutions including Jilin University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, Changchun is accelerating the transformation of research achievements into industrial applications.
