The 21st Changchun Film Festival will run from Aug 23 to 28, bringing filmmakers, audiences, and young creators together for six days of cinematic celebration in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province.

Under the theme "New Era, New Cradle, New Force", this year's festival will showcase emerging filmmakers and celebrate the youthful winter sports spirit of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Golden Hall of Changchun International Film City on Aug 23, followed by the closing ceremony on Aug 28, where the Golden Deer Awards winners will be announced. A total of 157 films have been submitted for both competition and exhibition, with 36 competing for the Best Debut Film award.

The festival will place a strong emphasis on nurturing young talent. Initiatives including the Golden Deer Project will support emerging filmmakers from script development to screen production, alongside forums, student microfilm programs, and an AIGC-themed film event.

Beyond traditional cinemas, the festival will bring screenings to communities, cultural districts, universities, parks, squares, and tourist attractions. With 26 free outdoor screening sites and more than 30 public viewing locations, the event aims to make cinema part of everyday urban life.

It will also launch film-themed activities, consumer coupons, and ticket-based benefits linking cinema with dining, tourism, and shopping.
