A shipment of 3,750 metric tons of green ammonia departed Lianyungang on July 28 for South Korea, marking the world's largest single-batch green ammonia export. It is also the first time a Chinese green fuel product has gained international recognition for its full life-cycle carbon emissions reductions, highlighting China's growing role in the global green fuel market.

Compared with conventionally produced ammonia made from coal, the shipment is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 10,000 tons over its full life cycle, equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration of about one million trees.

The green ammonia was produced at SPIC's HYGLOBAL Da'an Green Ammonia Project, part of China's National Demonstration Project for Clean and Low-Carbon Hydrogen. Commissioned in July 2025, the project produces 32,000 tons of green hydrogen and 180,000 tons of green ammonia annually. It is home to the world's largest single-unit green ammonia production facility and has achieved five global firsts.

The project's self-developed power-hydrogen-ammonia flexible coordination and control system addresses the challenge of integrating fluctuating renewable energy with continuous chemical production.

Despite temperatures as low as -30 C in Northeast China, the project operated reliably throughout the winter without equipment freeze-ups or safety incidents, demonstrating stable performance under extreme conditions. The innovation was recognized as one of the National Energy Administration's Top 10 Energy Technology Innovations of 2025.

Supported by international certification, including the world's first RFNBO Ammonia certification, the export marks a major step in integrating Chinese green ammonia into the global green fuel supply chain.
