Changchun sees strong economic momentum in H1

Changchun posted solid economic performance in the first half of the year, driven by advances in manufacturing, technological innovation, and life sciences, with the city's automobile manufacturing exports rising 31.4 percent year on year.

Jilin Universal Machinery Group, a leading private auto parts manufacturer in Jilin province, has strengthened its global competitiveness through its Munich R&D center, which was established in 2015.

By building a China-Europe joint research team, the company now develops products alongside international automakers such as Audi and BMW. It produces 40 million automotive components annually, while its lightweight aluminum forging business has added 500 million yuan ($70 million) in annual output value.

The 2026 Changchun International Optoelectronic Expo concluded with 69 signed projects worth a combined 20.55 billion yuan, reinforcing the city's role as a hub for the optoelectronic industry.

The pharmaceutical sector has continued to expand, with output increasing 5.2 percent in the first half of the year. Changchun GeneScience Pharmaceuticals Co developed Firsekibart for Injection, China's first targeted therapy for gout. The company has expanded its research, production, and commercialization network to more than 40 countries and regions, while integrating AI into innovative drug development to improve research efficiency and accelerate new therapies.

The number of locally commercialized scientific and technological achievements in the city increased by 15 percent, and technology contract turnover rose 18 percent.
