Xinmin Avenue in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin province, has become one of the city's most popular cultural destinations, attracting more than 12 million visits since reopening one year ago.
According to Liu Man, deputy director of the tourism management center of Chaoyang district, the historic street has undergone comprehensive upgrades to its municipal facilities, courtyards, and historic buildings since 2025, giving new life to the century-old neighborhood.
To enhance the visitor experience, authorities have established a tourist service center at the Changchun museum of history and culture, offering information services, luggage storage, and free drinking water.

New business formats and cultural activities have also been introduced along the avenue. Taking advantage of major events such as aerospace exhibitions, film festivals, and the countdown to the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade, the district organized 14 pedestrian street events over 26 days. Over the past year, more than 500 activities have been held in the district, generating extensive media coverage.
Ren Gang, deputy chief of the traffic management branch of the Changchun public security bureau, said that during 21 major events, more than 4,400 police officers, 620 patrol vehicles, and 410 motorcycles were deployed for traffic management and visitor services, with no major traffic congestion recorded.
