Zhang Junqiao: A legacy of healing beyond borders

A report meeting on the exemplary deeds of the "Most Beautiful Doctor" and Martyr Zhang Junqiao was held on May 28 at the Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University in Changchun.

Zhang Junqiao was the captain of the 27th Chinese medical aid team to Tanzania. On June 15, 2025, he lost his life at the age of 38 while rescuing a resident from drowning. He was posthumously awarded several honors, including the national advanced worker in the health sector, martyr, and "Most Beautiful Doctor".

Liu Zhefeng, inspector of the National Health Commission, reflected on the 63-year history of China's overseas medical assistance program, describing Zhang as an outstanding representative of the new generation of medical aid workers.

Xu Xiaohong, director of the Health Commission of Jilin Province, called on medical workers to inherit Zhang's spirit through professional dedication, public service, and compassion. Qin Yanguo, Party secretary of the Second Norman Bethune Hospital of Jilin University, said the best tribute to heroes is not only remembrance, but also carrying their spirit forward through action.
