Northeast China's Jilin province outlined new plans to accelerate the development of modern agriculture during a provincial news conference on May 19, as part of its broader strategy for high-quality growth during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30).

Officials said Jilin achieved major progress in agricultural and rural development during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), with improvements in grain production, characteristic industries, rural incomes, village infrastructure, and border-area development.

The province plans to promote the comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land and other underused farmland resources, and to become one of the first regions in China to complete high-standard farmland upgrades for all eligible permanent basic farmland.

The province will further strengthen its modern seed industry by fostering seed enterprises capable of ranking among China's national top 20. Efforts will also focus on upgrading smart agricultural machinery and expanding intelligent farming applications, with the mechanization rate for major crop cultivation and harvesting expected to reach 96.5 percent.

Jilin will continue developing greenhouse agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and deep processing of agricultural products. Officials have also highlighted plans to strengthen brands, including Jilin rice, Jilin fresh corn, Yanbian yellow cattle, Jilin black pork, and Changbai Mountain specialty products such as ginseng, black fungus, and pine nuts.

The province also plans to improve rural public services, infrastructure, and living conditions while promoting integrated urban-rural development and modern agricultural operations.
