Jilin is both a major national grain-producing base and one of China's leading regions for livestock production and processing. Benefiting from the world-renowned golden corn belt and golden livestock belt, the province has rich black soil resources and a strong ecological environment. It is also China's only inland province designated entirely as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone.
In 2025, Jilin recorded large-scale breeding of pigs, beef cattle, sheep, and poultry. The total output value of its five major livestock industrial clusters reached 608.5 billion yuan ($85.19 billion), while per capita meat possession ranked first nationwide at 134.9 kilograms, reinforcing its reputation as a major national meat reserve.
Jilin's cattle breeding industry ranks among the country's leaders. The province is also known for its sika deer industry, which leads the country in breeding scale, genetic resources, velvet antler production, and research capacity.
To strengthen industrial cooperation, Jilin has introduced an innovative cooperation model linking breeding in Jilin with processing in major consumer markets and nationwide sales through digital platforms.
