Spring has brought a surge of life to the Momoge National Nature Reserve in Zhenlai, Jilin province, as migratory birds arrive in peak numbers. More than 3,000 Siberian cranes have returned to this wetland.

Across the mirror-like waters, the cranes stretch their white wings – gliding in groups, calling across the wetlands, and dancing lightly in the air. They share the habitat with tens of thousands of other waterfowl, including swans, geese, and ducks.

As a key node along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, Momoge National Nature Reserve provides rich aquatic vegetation and clean water, making it an essential resting and feeding ground for migratory birds.
For the critically endangered Siberian crane, the wetland is especially vital. More than 60 percent of the global population stops here to rest and replenish their energy during their long journey.
