First plenary meeting sets direction for Winter Universiade

The organizing committee of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade held its first plenary meeting on April 1, marking a key step in advancing preparations for the international multi-sport event.
The meeting was chaired by Huai Jinpeng, Minister of Education and chairman of the organizing committee, with Gao Zhidan, director of the General Administration of Sport of China, and senior officials from Jilin Provincial People's Government also addressing the meeting.
Officials highlighted the significance of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade as a major international sporting event with far-reaching influence, seen as an important platform to showcase national strength and confidence, support regional vitalization, promote global youth exchange, and carry forward the legacy of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
The meeting called for heightened responsibility and urgency, emphasizing meticulous, efficient planning across all aspects of preparation.
Key priorities include refining plans for the opening and closing ceremonies and torch relay, ensuring high-quality competition organization, and advancing invitations to participating delegations. Preparations will also include forming the Chinese university sports delegation to demonstrate the vitality of young athletes and the progress of sports-education integration in China.
Cultural and academic exchange activities, such as the FISU World Conference, will also be tailored for university participants to enhance the event's global appeal and influence.
