Sendai, Japan

Changchun and Sendai of Japan established a sister-city relationship in 1980. Sendai is the capital of Miyagi prefecture and serves as the political, economic, transportation, cultural, and commercial center of Japan's northeastern region. The city covers a total area of 788.08 square kilometers.
Known for its scenic beauty and pleasant environment, Sendai is often called the "City of Trees". Its tree-lined zelkova avenues, famous across Japan, the clear and tranquil Hirose River winding through the city center, and its numerous themed parks blend harmoniously, making Sendai a modern city in close harmony with nature.
Sendai is also renowned as an academic city and a major research hub in Japan. It is home to 17 universities and junior colleges, with more than 47,000 students from across Japan and around the world.
In addition, Sendai serves as the commercial and logistics center of northeastern Japan. Its economy is dominated by the tertiary sector, including commerce and services, which accounts for about 85 percent of the city's total output.
Sendai is also a key transportation hub in northeastern Japan. A regular air route between Changchun and Sendai was officially launched on Jan 1, 2003.
