Da'an county in Baicheng, Northeast China's Jilin province, launched its ice and snow tourism season on Jan 18, unveiling a winter program that blends study tours with the region's fishing and hunting heritage.

Designed around a main venue and three linked sub-venues, the opening was broadcast live to showcase a new model that integrates culture, tourism, sports, and education.

Industrial learning anchors the season, with the Da'an Locomotive Expo Park serving as the core study base. Specially designed spaces, such as a time-themed learning corridor and a snow playground, have attracted students and teachers from nearly 50 universities across nine provinces, as well as local participants. Against a backdrop of railway exhibits and winter scenery, visitors explored the county's industrial roots while engaging in ice and snow activities.

On the frozen Nenxi Lake, an ice dragon boat race brought together 512 competitors from 32 teams. Chants echoed across the ice as races unfolded, while nearby winter carnival attractions drew large crowds.

At Yulong Lake, traditional winter fishing ceremonies took center stage, featuring Shaman dances and ritual lake-opening performances. Fishermen cut through thick ice to haul in nets in a dramatic display, supported by a streamlined system covering catch, sales, and delivery. Free fish giveaways and strong harvests across five major fishing grounds added to the festive atmosphere.
