Northeast China's Jilin province has reinforced its position as one of China's leading grain producers, ranking fourth nationwide in total grain output in 2025, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Dec 12.

The province recorded simultaneous growth in total output, yield per unit area and planting area, marking another year of strong and stable production.

Total grain output reached 43.58 billion kilograms. Yield per mu rose to 495.4 kg, the highest among China's major grain-producing provinces and more than double the national average growth rate. The grain cultivation area expanded to 87.97 million mu (5.86 million hectares), extending a streak of continuous growth that has lasted two decades.

The gains were driven by sustained investment in high-quality farmland, improved seed varieties, advanced farming practices, modern machinery and digital agriculture. Black soil protection remained central to the strategy, with conservation tillage applied to more than 40 million mu, the largest area nationwide, while soil quality indicators continued to improve.

High-yield, high-quality crop varieties are now used across all major crops, supported by the comprehensive upgrading of agricultural machinery and targeted policy incentives for large-scale farming and agricultural services.
