The third China Baicheng saline-alkali land utilization and Da'an rice field governance model exchange conference was held in Da'an, Baicheng, Northeast China's Jilin province, from Sept 9 to 10.

Experts and enterprises discussed shifting saline-alkali land development from yield-driven to quality-driven, aiming to build unified national technical standards.

Academician Li Yu of the Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered a keynote speech on the role of fungi in saline-alkali land remediation, offering a novel perspective alongside plant and animal cycles.

Since becoming a national pilot for saline-alkali land utilization in 2022, Da'an has developed its unique model, integrating water-based land zoning, ecological improvement, improved seed cultivation, and modern operations. To date, 27 projects have been implemented, boosting annual grain output by 117.5 million kilograms and achieving multi-dimensional benefits for farmers, finance, and ecology.

This year, the conference also introduced a new dimension, combining product promotion, exhibition, and investment. At Tongqing Plaza in Nenjiang Bay Tourism Area – a national 5A-level scenic area – visitors enjoyed performances while sampling and buying local specialties such as weak-alkali rice, fresh corn, crayfish, and sea buckthorn. The event resulted in the signing of product sales agreements totaling 120 million yuan ($16.68 million).

By bringing leading enterprises to the forefront, Da'an is fostering a market-oriented approach that connects cutting-edge theory with real-world commercialization.
