The first China Chagan Lake Fishing Competition kicked off on Aug 24 at the renowned scenic spot in Northeast China's Jilin province, drawing more than 160 enthusiasts from across the country to compete and share in the joy of angling.

The competition began at 6 am, with 36 professional judges officiating. Under the watchful eyes of local authorities, medical teams, and eager spectators, participants showcased their fishing skills – eyes fixed on the floats, rods lifted, lines reeled in.

Around the venue, the atmosphere was equally lively, with music and dance performances, bustling farm produce stalls, and local food vendors. Fresh fish from Chagan Lake, organic rice, and handmade beef jerky proved especially popular among visitors.

Throughout the event, only approved fish species were used, with harmful bait banned. Catches could be released, sold back to businesses, or taken home.

The event marked another innovative step in Qianguo county's push to integrate sports and tourism. In the first half of this year alone, major sports events drew 2.14 million visitors and generated 1.89 billion yuan ($262.71 million) in tourism revenue.

Next up are the Chagan Lake Aviation Sports Season, the Grassland Naadam Festival, and a marathon, promising even more excitement for visitors.
