Shulan builds a thriving white goose economy
|In the city of Shulan, Northeast China's Jilin province, a new badminton shuttlecock production project is taking shape. With an annual output of six million shuttlecocks, plus goose feather processing and related businesses, the project is expected to generate 150 million yuan ($20.93 million) in annual output and create 100 jobs.
This project is part of Shulan's larger efforts to revitalize its once fragmented white goose industry. Despite being located in the golden belt of down feather production, Shulan's goose industry had long suffered from scattered development and weak branding. To address this, the local government has developed a comprehensive industrial chain plan, from breeding and feed supply to slaughtering and deep processing, and launched targeted policy support that included subsidies, insurance, and guaranteed purchasing.
Today, Shulan boasts 22 completed and 10 under-construction integrated goose farms. It is now China's largest goose-rearing county, generating nearly 300 million yuan in income for local farmers.
The 1.42 billion yuan Shulan White Goose Industrial Park, covering 340,000 square meters, integrates feather processing, R&D, cold chain logistics, and e-commerce. Each feather is used to its fullest extent, maximizing value and creating a model for a circular agricultural economy.
