Jilin's heritage brands earn national spotlight

Two standout regional brands from Northeast China's Jilin province earned national acclaim at the 2025 China Brand Evaluation Press Conference and Forum held on May 10 in Deqing, Zhejiang. Shulan rice ranked 32nd and Fusong ginseng 37th on the Top 100 regional (geographical indication) brands list – recognition of their deep-rooted quality and innovation.

Shulan rice: Taste of the golden belt

Shulan city, located at the world's 44th parallel north ideal for rice growing, sits atop fertile black soil with up to 10 percent organic content. With over 50,000 hectares under cultivation, it produces 400,000 metric tons of rice annually.

Shulan is known as the "Hometown of Ecological Rice", with premium varieties thriving in cold-climate conditions. Backed by four provincial research platforms, Shulan uses sustainable farming methods including rice-duck and rice-crab co-cultivation. Its 26 leading producers employ state-of-the-art low-temp preservation and automated dust-free processing for unmatched purity.

Fusong ginseng: Rooted in royal heritage

Fusong county in the heart of Changbai Mountain has a 1,600-year history of wild ginseng harvesting and a 460-year tradition of cultivation.

Known as the "Hometown of Chinese Ginseng", the county leads in standardization and innovation, having developed eight new varieties and implemented 37 group standards.

With over 600 ginseng-based products spanning the health, food, and cosmetics industries, Fusong's ginseng exports now reach more than 30 countries.
