Northeast China's Jilin province is experiencing a booming winter tourism season. From November 2024 to March 2025, Jilin is projected to welcome 170 million domestic tourists, generating 295 billion yuan ($40.7 billion) in travel spending – marking a 35 percent and 21 percent year-over-year increase, respectively.
According to Meituan Travel, searches for "outdoor ski resorts" in Jilin skyrocketed by over 1,000 percent, while interest in "Changchun Ice and Snow New World" rose by 571 percent.
The province remains a powerhouse in China's winter tourism sector, with 68 ski resorts, 361 slopes, and a total skiing area of 1,414 hectares. Six of China's top 30 ski resorts are in Jilin, ranked by total skiing distance.
But the province offers more than skiing. Some ski resorts now feature Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) wellness centers where visitors can enjoy acupuncture, cupping therapy, and massages after a day on the slopes. Local opera performances are also transforming nighttime ski resorts into dynamic cultural hubs.
Beyond winter, Jilin is committed to developing year-round tourism. The province offers activities such as low-altitude flying, off-road UTV adventures, and mountain camping by repurposing ski resorts in the off-season.
