Fusong county – located in Northeast China's Jilin province – has made significant strides in recent years by aligning itself with the region's strategy to develop a 100-billion-yuan ($14.06 billion) ginseng industry.
As a pioneer in the construction of the "Two Mountains" concept test area, Fusong is accelerating the development of China's ginseng industry demonstration zone – focusing on making ginseng a specialized, strategic and prosperous industry for the province.
The county has invested in building seed production bases and preserving the valuable genetic resources of Changbai Mountain ginseng. As a result, Fusong's efforts have yielded impressive results, with the 2023 ginseng industry chain transaction volume reaching 19.1 billion yuan, accounting for 27 percent of the province's total.
This includes primary industry output value last year of 347 million yuan, secondary industry output of 6.1 billion yuan and tertiary industry output of 12.66 billion yuan.
What's more, through the innovative integration of ginseng cultivation, processing and sales, Fusong has established itself as a key player in enhancing the quality of Jilin's ginseng products.
The county's dedication to this ancient and valuable crop is widely said to underscore its commitment to economic development and cultural heritage, contributing significantly to the prosperity of the region.
