Meihekou city has made significant progress in addressing dining difficulties and high dining costs for the elderly population by promoting the construction of "Home Care Service Centers (Citizen Canteens)".

With the support of eight community-based Party and Mass Service Stations, Meihekou has established ten citizen canteens, which can accommodate over 3,700 diners each day. This initiative has been warmly welcomed by the people and widely praised by society.

The Citizen Canteen is a welfare-oriented livelihood project. Elderly individuals aged 65-69 enjoy a government subsidy of 3 yuan ($0.42), while those aged 70 and above, as well as disabled individuals and low-income households, receive a subsidy of 5 yuan. Since its operation, the number of service users has exceeded 2 million.
