Founded in June 2000, Jilin Animation Institute received approval from the Ministry of Education in 2008 to become an independent undergraduate-level private college.

The institute consists of 15 teaching units, including the School of Animation Arts, School of Comics, School of Game, School of Film, School of Virtual Reality and School of Film Technology, with a current enrollment of over 13,000 students.

Renowned as the cradle of China's animation and gaming talent, Jilin Animation Institute is China's first higher education institution dedicated to cultivating animation and gaming professionals. It stands as the largest national-level animation teaching and research institution in Asia, and its scale ranks among the world's largest single-entity animation academies.

The institute has been successively awarded titles such as "National Animation Teaching and Research Base," "National Animation Industry Base," "National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base," and "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship College Construction Unit."
