Jilin Provincial Opera Theater was founded in 1959, committed to "gathering all the best from the best, and forming an independent style", combining folk art, classics, and modern productions, and fusing local, ethnic and contemporary characteristics.

Nearly 200 plays have been staged at the theater to date, including such hit titles as Sister Jiangjie and Three Visits to Fan Lihua, both of which have contributed to the Chinese opera art reserve.
