The Jidian Energy Valley Lead-carbon Battery Project officially began production in the Baicheng Green Energy Industrial Demonstration Park – located in Baicheng, Northeast China's Jilin province – with its first batch of products rolling off the production line on Oct 23.

The project covers a total area of 200,000 square meters, with a planned total investment of 10 billion yuan ($1.37 billion).

The first phase of the project has received an investment of 1.33 billion yuan. Once the first phase is completed, it will have the capacity to produce 5 million kilovolt-ampere hours or kVAh of lead-carbon batteries annually and achieve the reutilization of 200,000 metric tons of waste batteries.

It will generate annual revenue of 4.4 billion yuan and contribute 280 million yuan in taxes. Additionally, the facility is expected to attract upstream and downstream players in the energy storage and battery industry.

This will form a complete industrial supply chain for lead-carbon battery energy storage – from the manufacturing of basic materials and components, to battery assemblies and even the recycling of waste battery materials.

The facility has been included in the three-year plan for the revitalization of Northeast China. The successful launch of its products is predicted to fill a current gap in the energy storage industry in Jilin.

By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the Baicheng Green Energy Industrial Demonstration Park is expected to be a nationally recognized carbon-neutral demonstration park, with a clean energy installed capacity surpassing 5 million kilowatts and an output value of 30 billion yuan.

It's projected to be a new engine for the high-quality development of the business ecosystem and economy of western Jilin.
