Xian Shunnyu, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress or NPC, recently recommended that teaching the arts be extended on school campuses, at the ongoing congress in Beijing.

Xian said more education on the arts, especially music education about the symphony orchestra, should be provided. This was so that children in third and fourth-tier cities – in areas, like the Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture in Northeast China's Jilin province – could be exposed to the civilizing and uplifting influence of the arts.
