Northeast China's Jilin province is to focus on building world-renowned ice and snow tourist resorts and on promoting the high-quality leapfrog development of its ice and snow economy, according to local media reports.

Jilin is said to be blessed with what it can offer visitors during the colder months. Changbai Mountains, to the east of Jilin – coupled with Jilin city and Changchun city in the middle of the province – are widely regarded as wonderlands of ice and snow.

On its own, the Changbai Mountains boast some of the world's best-quality winter season resources and are known as one of the world's top three powder snow caps – along with the Swiss Alps and the Rocky Mountains.

During the Spring Festival holiday this year, ice and snow tourism in Jilin continued to be a hot favorite. The aggregate skiing distances recorded by the four major ski resorts in the province – Beidahu, Songhua Lake, Tonghua Wanfeng, and Changbaishan Wanda – ranked among the top 10 ski resorts in the country, with Beidahu number one.

At present, Jilin province has built 75 ski resorts of various types – covering a total area of 1,256.8 hectares. They have a total length of 358.1 kilometers and a maximum daily handling capacity of 120,000 people.
