Northeast China's Jilin province has been promoting its development with the implementation of a provincial high-quality grain project.

As a result, strong progress has been recorded in increasing the supply of green and high-quality grain and oil products and increasing the incomes of farmers.

The implementation of the grain project is seen as being a powerful driver to implement the rural revitalization strategy and the national food security strategy – and to deepen the structural reform of the agricultural supply side.

In 2022, the grain project focused on the needs of the development of the grain industry and the construction of an emergency support system. It promoted grain storage, the branding of quality varieties, emergency support and mechanical equipment upgrades – achieving better prices and higher sales of grain.

Corn and rice are the main food crops in Jilin province. The provincial grain and material reserve bureau has restructured the promotion of the development of corn and rice industry clusters and identified 12 key enterprises, 10 key projects and 17 industrial parks as the focus of its work and established a work account.

Last year, the total processing of corn and rice reached 22.27 billion kilograms and the output value stood at 81.1 billion yuan ($11.9 billion), a year-on-year increase of 1.8 percent.

At present, the number of large-scale leading enterprises with an annual output value of more than 1 billion yuan has increased to 12. In addition, the feed and fresh corn industries have experienced relatively large growth.

The province now boasts 17 modern agricultural industrial parks above the provincial level for corn and rice. The Songyuan Cargill Biochemical Industrial Park has launched an investment promotion around the extension of the industrial supply chain and nine enterprises have settled in the park.

Moving forwards, plans are for Jilin province to move to achieve an average annual increase of more than 10 percent in the production amount of high-quality grain by 2025.
