A train for a medium-capacity rail system – also known as a light rapid transit network – developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co, or CRRC Changchun, officially rolled off the production line in Southwest China's Chongqing on Feb 10.

CRRC Changchun is based in Changchun city, capital of Northeast China's Jilin province.

The train features a strong climbing ability, small turning radius and strong environmental adaptability. The maximum operating speed is 80 kilometers per hour and the passenger capacity of a single vehicle is 136.

The train can be organized flexibly to meet the needs of different passenger flows, with low noise and little impact on the environment surrounding the line.

The vehicle uses energy-saving technologies such as permanent magnetic traction and high-frequency auxiliary conversions, to further improve energy utilization efficiency and create a green and energy-saving medium-capacity rail transit system.

It has adopted the highest level of automatic driving technology, which can realize functions such as automatic wake-ups, automatic starts and stops of the vehicle. At the same time, its design is compatible with new technology applications such as vehicle-to-vehicle communications, a new energy supply and multi-network system integration.

The axle weight is only 9 metric tons, laying the foundation for the light weight of the entire system.

Also unveiled on the day was a monorail system, offering a new solution to the construction of rail transit with various traffic volumes. It has the advantages of meeting the needs of different passenger flow intensities, different application scenarios and low costs. The manufacturers say it is the first of its kind in China.
