China's first mass-produced L4 autonomous passenger car – the Hongqi EV – caused an exciting stir when it made its debut on Nov 8-11 at the 2022 World Internet Conference held in Wuzhen, in East China's Zhejiang province, according to local media reports.
The self-driving passenger car was jointly developed by Baidu and China FAW Group.
The main lidar mounted on the top of the vehicle is the "eye", which is used to collect data around the vehicle body and the effective detection distance can reach 240 meters. The in-vehicle computing center is the "brain", where the data collected is gathered and then it makes decisions on driving the car.
According to Hongqi staff members, the self-driving Hongqi auto can automatically identify traffic lights, traffic lines and traffic signs and steadily adjust the speed according to real-time road conditions.
In March, Baidu Apollo's self-driving travel service platform "Apollo Go" was officially released in Wuzhen, providing self-driving travel demonstration services to the public, using this Hongqi self-driving model.
