Ski resorts in Northeast China's Jilin province have planned a whole gamut of exciting and appealing activities and services for the summer season – including camping, grass skiing, fun B&B stays, paragliding and hot air ballooning, according to local media reports.
"After five consecutive years of summer operations, our activities – such as the tent camping festival, mountain sports festival and cross-country race on the top of the mountain here – have become deeply popular with folks," said Huang Zhongrui, head of marketing at the Lake Songhua Resort, in Jilin city, Jilin province.

Jilin province and the famous Alps in Europe are located in the same "golden latitude of ice and snow" – at a latitude of 42 degrees north. However, unlike the ski resorts in the Alps – which have an average altitude of over 2,000 meters and have almost constant snow throughout the year, Jilin province does not have its own natural snow during summer.
In recent years, with the continuous development of the ice and snow tourism market, skiing resorts in many places in Jilin province have started to operate their businesses during the hot summers.
The big resorts in Tonghua, Baishan and Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture – and in other places in the Changbai Mountains – have launched activities around the theme of making a summer escape.
As a result, more than half the 54 ski resorts in Jilin province are understood to be remaining in operation during this summer season.
