A media delegation on July 19 visited the Changchun New Area in Changchun – capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province – as part of a large-scale press event to promote an in-depth understanding of the region and its achievements.

Over the past two years, the growth rate of major economic indicators – including GDP, industrial output value and fixed asset investments in the Changchun New Area – have topped provincial and municipal levels.

The new area currently ranks 27th among the 169 national high-tech zones in the country and ranks first among the national high-tech zones in Northeast China.

The output value of the biopharmaceuticals industry in the new area, for example, accounts for 30 percent of the province's total and 80 percent of Changchun city's total. Leading industries such as optoelectronic information and advanced equipment manufacturing are rapidly going large-scale, high-end and are forming clusters.

A star performer in the region is Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co – the first commercial remote sensing satellite company in China – which was the only business in Northeast China to be selected on the 2020 China Unicorn Enterprises List.

Jilin-1 satellites are the company's core products. In the seven years since its establishment, it has launched 54 Jilin-1 satellites into orbit via 16 launches.

The Jilin-1 satellite range is China's first domestic remote-sensing satellite series designed for commercial use. The units can capture super high-definition images and help with forest fire warnings, the reversal of desertification, as well as with offshore rescues, ocean protection and other remote-sensing information services.
