Changchun city – located in Northeast China's Jilin province – is going from strength to strength in terms of its scientific research. It is now home to 11 national key laboratories, five national engineering technology research centers, 86 independent scientific research institutions – such as the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CIOMP) – and 40 institutions of higher learning, including Jilin University.
