Northeast China's Jilin province is a star in new energy power generation, according to the provincial energy bureau.

As of the end of May, the province had in the year to date installed 12.32 million kilowatts of wind and solar power generation plants, including 8.67 million kW of wind power and 3.65 million kW of solar power plants.

The development of new energy – represented by wind energy, solar energy and biomass energy – is widely considered to be one of the most competitive endeavors in Jilin province.

More than a decade ago, the western region of Jilin province got the green light to build one of the first of seven major wind power bases in the country. In recent years, Jilin has steadily promoted the development and utilization of new energy, and has promoted the development of the new energy equipment manufacturing industry.

An outstanding example of this has been the construction on the Three Gorges on Land project, which began in Baicheng city in October last year.

The project – a major new energy project affirmed by the Jilin provincial Party committee and provincial government – will include the construction of national new energy production and construction bases. Three will be built in the province: a consumption base, a new energy delivery base and a new energy conversion base.
