The first heavy-duty commercial vehicle in-cylinder, direct-injection hydrogen engine, independently designed and developed by truck producer FAW Jiefang Automotive Co, was successfully turned on and ran stably on June 8.
This hydrogen engine is a 13-liter heavy-duty engine with a running power of over 500 horsepower and the strongest displacement power in its class. The indicated thermal efficiency exceeds 55 percent, marking a major breakthrough in the independent research and development of China's hydrogen direct injection engine.
China as a nation is striving to achieve carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.
Heavy-duty hydrogen engines, as a new force for the zero-carbon power of commercial vehicles, are seen as being one of the key ways to achieve the dual-carbon goal in the transportation field.
In recent years, FAW Jiefang has actively promoted its low-carbon development and green transformation. In 2021, it had sales of 439,700 units, leading the world in heavy truck sales for six consecutive years.
