As a practitioner and promoter of the country's "dual carbon" strategy, leading automaker China FAW Group has proposed that by 2053 it will basically reach the level of net zero emissions and it will have the ability to achieve carbon neutrality, according to local media reports.
At present, the company is reported to be making every effort to promote its low-carbon transformation through the implementation of green manufacturing, the promotion of emission reductions in the entire industry supply chain, technological change and the optimization of its product structure.
To this end, FAW Group's Hongqi Fanrong – or "prosperity" – plant was officially opened in Changchun city, in Northeast China's Jilin province, with a ceremony held on June 29 last year.
The plant, said to be a model for green manufacturing, is projected to save 94,000 metric tons of standard coal every year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 237,000 tons and sulfur dioxide by 864 tons annually.
Starting with the use of renewable energy, the application of environmental protection processes and end-of-pollution treatments, it is expected to achieve huge energy savings and carbon reduction throughout the entire life cycle of the plant.

In addition, FAW Group has also continued to promote the transformation of energy-saving and water-saving technologies in existing factories and is continuously enhancing the recycling rate of its energy resources.
In 2020, the company implemented 213 energy-saving technological transformation projects, saving 12.2 million tons of standard coal, reducing wastewater emissions by 802,700 tons and adding seven "green factories" certified by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Moreover, FAW is striving to create a green manufacturing model covering the entire life cycle of its products. Through green design – as well as the green procurement of products and packaging, green transportation, product recycling and other full-chain green management – FAW is acknowledged to be driving the low-carbon development of the entire industrial chain.
Moving forwards, the auto giant projects new energy models to account for 40 percent of FAW-Hongqi sales by 2025 and 80 percent by 2030.
