Qin Haitao, a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, or CCPPC, recently proposed further support for the development of new energy in the western areas of Jilin province.

Northeast China's Jilin is set to fully implement a series of plans for the spatial layout of industry, known as "One Main, Six Double".

Under the province's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Jilin plans to transform its abundant new energy resources, in the form of wind energy and solar energy in its western region, into a driving force for regional economic development and to further assist in the revitalization of Northeast China.

But there are hurdles to overcome, Qin said. "There are still constraints on the transformation of abundant new energy resources into a new energy economy," he said.

Qin added that due to small local electricity consumption and insufficient consumption of new energy power, it was difficult to give full play to the advantages of eco-friendly electricity.

From the perspective of external factors, there were problems such as poor delivery channels, weak grid infrastructure and difficulties in peak regulation of the power system.

Qin proposed that the construction of new energy power production and support power supply transmission projects should be accelerated.

Furthermore, he said better new energy development conditions and power supply transmission channels should be further promoted in the western Jilin province.

In addition, policy and financial support for the development and utilization of hydrogen energy should be increased, Qin concluded.
