Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province, announced its five-year urban development plan during a news conference on Feb 23, that highlighted construction and cooperation.

It plans to promote the Changchun International Automobile City – as well as to develop itself into a modern agricultural city, a low-carbon demonstration city, a science and technology innovation city, an emerging consumer city, as well as a cultural and creative city.

Taking advantage of its internationalization and the clustering of the automobile industry and the equipment manufacturing sector, Changchun envisages in particular further expansion of Changchun International Automobile City, located in the Changchun Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone.

Elsewhere, to speed up its development as a modern agricultural city, plans are for it to give full play to its operational advantages as being one of the country's foremost commodity grain bases and having established strong agricultural foundations.

Meanwhile, to speed up its evolution as a science and technology innovation city, it is expected to give full play to its competitive advantages of possessing rich innovation resources in large institutes, universities and institutes in the city.

Changchun is also aiming to strengthen cooperation between cities and prefectures in Jilin province, to promote industrial development.
