Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province, was selected as a national demonstration city for public transport development by the Ministry of Transport, according to local media reports.

Since 2014, Changchun city has included the development of its public transport in its government work report for five consecutive years.

More than 20 special plans such as the Changchun Comprehensive Transportation System Plan have been compiled, and they have been incorporated into the city's overall city planning to give priority to public transportation.

The transportation facilities in Changchun have been gradually improved such as the various transportation transfer centers, an urban subway rail transit network, and bus lanes set up across the city.

A total of 70 bus lines have been newly opened and adjusted, and 45 bus lines have been optimized.

Changchun has been making efforts in launching green buses and updated green energy vehicles. Since 2018, green vehicles have accounted for 99 percent of the city's buses.

In 2020, seven rail transit engineering projects in Changchun began construction.

By 2025, the operating mileage of Changchun rail transit will reach 216.1 kilometers, and there will be four subway lines in the east-west direction, effectively alleviating traffic congestion.

More urban-rural and intercity bus lines will be launched according to Changchun's public transport network planning.
