Media contingent travels to Baishan martyr's cemetery

A media contingent on July 26 visits the Martyr Yang Jingyu Cemetery – located in Baishan, Northeast China's Jilin province – as part of a major promotional campaign organized to promote a greater understanding of the region and its achievements. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

An impressive statue of Yang Jingyu stands silent sentinel over the cemetery. In 1929, Yang was sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China to the country's northeast to lead the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), he led his troops to fight the enemy. After engagements with the enemy lasting five days and nights, Yang died heroically on Feb 23, 1940, at the age of 35 in Jingyu Mountain. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
