Jilin province and Gyeonggi province established a friendly relationship on October 30, 2019.

Gyeonggi province is the most populous province in South Korea. Its name, Gyeonggi, means "near the capital", an apt description of this province surrounding Seoul. Seoul, the nation's largest city and capital, is in the heart of the province but has been separately administered as a provincial-level special city since 1946. Incheon, the nation's third-largest city, is on the coast of the province and has been similarly administered as a provincial-level metropolitan city since 1981. The three jurisdictions are collectively referred to as the Seoul Capital Area and have a combined population of 25.5 million — amounting to over half of the entire population of South Korea.

The province, which is split in two by the majestic Hangang River, has been inhabited since prehistoric times. It contains a significant number of ancient relics, and due to its proximity to Seoul it is also home to several important historical sites dating from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).
