Established in 1952, Jilin Medical University is now the only independent Western medicine undergraduate university in Northeast China's Jilin province.

It is also the national base for the examination of traditional Chinese medicine practice skills and a national medical practitioner examination base in Jilin.

The university has two affiliated hospitals and three non-directly affiliated hospitals, all of which are tertiary hospitals, as well as 63 internship training bases.

It currently has 675 faculty members and 470 full-time teachers, including two part-time doctoral tutors, 57 postgraduate tutors, 324 teachers with master's degrees or above, and 219 with senior titles.

The university has 21 undergraduate majors and six specialist majors in the areas of medicine, science, engineering, and management.

In the past five years, the university has established 15 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including one national major scientific research instrument research and development project in cooperation with Nanjing University.

Jilin Medical University has established cooperative relationships with universities, research institutes and hospitals in more than 10 countries, including the United States, Britain, Australia, South Korea, India, the Netherlands, and Belarus.
