Jingxin Wetland, located in Hunchun city in Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, in Northeast China’s Jilin province, is currently seeing hundreds of thousands of migrating birds coming to rest there, according to local reports.

The birds include wild geese, egrets, sea eagle, and more, which can be seen everywhere in the wetland.

Covering an area of more than 5,800 hectares, Jingxin Wetland is one of the key wetlands in Jilin province.

It is China’s first stop for birds migrating from Siberia to the south. They usually start to come in October and will leave in mid-December, according to experts.

This year, the number of wild geese has seen an obvious increase compared with the last year, with the maximum number of around 300,000, said Gao Dabin, an officer at the Hunchun Siberian tiger protection zone administration bureau.

Gao said it was the first time he has seen such a large number of wild geese at Jingxin Wetland.

The officer added that it was due to the joint efforts by different departments, including forestry and public security departments, local government and support from volunteers and local residents.
