A summer camp program to help students from poor areas was launched in Changchun, capital of Northeast China's Jilin province, on Aug 6.

The summer camp is hosted by the Chinese Communist Youth League (CCYL) and organized by the CCYL committee and brand public relations department of Chinese automaker FAW Group and the China Foundation of Culture and Arts for Children. It is meant to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Representatives from organizing departments, volunteers, donors, and 70 teachers and students from Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hubei, Gansu, and Shaanxi provinces took part in the launch ceremony.

The program, which began in 2018, is FAW Group's response to the national poverty alleviation plan. Every year, the program selects teenagers from 105 impoverished counties along the Long March route and offers them a chance to visit Changchun and tour the company.

Li Ming, deputy secretary of the CCYL committee of FAW Group, welcomed teachers and students who had come from afar to participate in the summer camp. He said the camp includes visits to historic sites in Changchun, visits to vehicle and high-speed train manufacturing centers, and classes on music, movies, drama, and vehicles.

Students will learn a lot during the event and have more ideas about the future, Li added.

During the ceremony, representatives from FAW Group offered schoolbags to the students.
