Traditional handicrafts to help farmers out of poverty in Jilin

More farmers in Northeast China's Jilin province will be lifted out of poverty thanks to the local government' efforts to promote traditional handicrafts.

A straw weaving training class opened in Xinglongbao village, Halahai town, part Jilin's Long'an county, on Dec 3.

A total of 70 poverty-stricken and left-behind women attended the class, which was taught by Qu Xiujie, an experienced straw weaving master.

"I will try my best to help local women acquire the weaving techniques," she said. "By weaving grass into beautiful handicrafts, they will be able to make more money and lift themselves out of poverty in the future."

Organized by Changchun Municipal Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the training class aims to provide tailor-made solutions for poverty alleviation in the village.
