Presided over by Changchun-based Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd with a total investment of 6 billion yuan ($868 million), the 216,000-square-meter industry park will be capable of producing 30 satellites and 200 unmanned aerial vehicles a year once it enters full-production.

Knowing that scientific innovation is the key to the revitalization of the city's old industrial center and a new force powering its transformation and upgrading, Changchun has focused on the importance of its local companies' capacity to innovate and hone their core competitiveness.

Chang Guang Satellite Technology is a standout among all the high-tech enterprises. In October 2015, four Jilin-1 commercial satellites independently developed by the company were sent into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu province, marking a big step forward in the industrialization of pace technology. These are China's first commercial, remote-sensing satellites to be named after a province.
