The China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center (or Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, HHRRC) unveiled a japonica rice experiment and demonstration base in Jiaohe, a county-level city of Jilin city, Northeast China's Jilin province, on June 20.

It is the only HHRRC experiment and demonstration base in Jilin province. The base will further promote the high-quality development of the local rice industry, help expand the local rice brand influence, and improve the quality and efficiency of regional agricultural development.

Jiaohe has taken optimizing the rice industry as a concrete measure to implement the new vision on the development and promotion of rural revitalization. By 2020, the city's rice planting area had reached 150,000 mu (10,000 hectares) with an annual output of 70,000 tons.

The base will rely on the technical strengths and scientific research advantages of the HHRRC to develop new cold-resistant, high-yield and high-quality rice varieties suitable, further enhancing the competitiveness of Jiaohe rice.

It will also be used to demonstrate the cultivation of "Jiaolong No 1" and "Jiaolong No 2", super hybrid rice developed by the national center.

In the future, the center will also work with local people to introduce the third-generation of hybrid rice technology, the combination methods of green planting, and breeding to improve the coverage rate of fine rice varieties, and thus contributing to the development of Jiaohe's high-quality rice industry.
