When the lights go on, the skiing continues

Over the past 12 days, as skiers in Changchun, Jilin province, enjoyed the new winter season, Zhang Jiadong was taking more than 4,000 photos at the city's Miaoxiang Mountain Ski Resort to record splendid moments.

After work, the 44-year-old photographer would drive to the resort, which is around 55 kilometers from the city center.

"I found more enthusiasts like to ski in the evening," he said. "It has become fashionable among office workers."

For the new season, lighting systems to illuminate the slopes were renovated, said Zhang Yinan, a staff member at the resort. Night skiing is open from 5:30 pm to 9 pm, attracting lots of office workers.

Zhang Jiadong also found that more children have taken up winter sports.

"The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games has further aroused he public's passion for snow and ice sports," Zhang said. "Skiing has become an essential skill for many people."
