The Five Golden Flowers

The Five Golden Flowers, released in 1959, tells a love story of two young people in Dali Bai autonomous prefecture, Southwest China's Yunnan province. Apeng, the male protagonist in this film, meets Jinhua on The Third Moon Fair, a festival of the Bai ethnic group.

Jinhua is attracted by Apeng's courage and kindness. They fall in love with each other and agree on a date for the next festival. However, when that day comes, Apeng finds four girls named "Jinhua", but none is the one he met the previous year. After twists and turns, Apeng finds his girl, giving a happy ending to the couple who spend the rest of their lives together.

The Shangganling Campaign

The Shangganling Campaign, a film adapted from the literary output The 24 Days, is a classic about the Battle of Triangle Hill, an important part of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, in which a band of Chinese soldiers led by Commander Zhang Zhongfa succeeds in holding off the US forces with a much smaller band. The theme song "My Motherland" is very popular nationwide even today.

The Heroic Sons and Daughters

The Heroic Sons and Daughters, a classic film produced by Changchun Film Studio in 1964, tells the story of Wang Cheng and his sister Wang Fang. Wang Cheng is killed in action. Encouraged by her brother, Wang Fang manages to become a role model with the help of Wang Wenqing.

The story ends with the reunion of Wang Fang and her stepfather Wang Fubiao and her biological father Wang Wenqing. The song, Praise to Heroes, became very popular nationwide after the release of the film.

The White-haired Girl

The White-haired Girl tells a miserable story of Xi'er, a beautiful girl who is in love with a young peasant called Wang Dachun. The life of Xi'er abruptly changes for the worse when her father is forced to trade her life away to repay the landowner Huang Shiren. Her father commits suicide with regret.

After her father's death, Xi'er is abducted to Huang's manor. Wang joins the army after failing to rescue Xi'er. Xi'er is forced to serve Huang and is later raped by Huang. After failing to escape, Xi'er spends the next few years living in a cave in which her baby dies shortly after birth.

Xi'er's unbearable life turns her hair completely white-haired. One day, when she is seeking food, she is seen by a local who mistakenly think she is a white-haired immortal. The myth spreads quickly and widely among the locals that she may have supernatural powers.

Two years later, Wang returns to his hometown and joins a campaign aimed at making peasants' life better by reducing rentals and interest payments. When Wang attempts to unravel the conspiracy of the landowner, he finds that the white-haired immortal is nobody but Xi'er. They meet again and the landowner is punished.
