Jilin province in Northeast China has made a systematic deployment of its agricultural development in 10 areas.

They include promoting grain production, developing a so-called "shopping basket program", protecting its black soil and consolidating and expanding its achievements in poverty alleviation.

The recently released provincial work document proposes that the sown area of grain should reach 90 million mu (6 hectares) in the current year and the annual grain output should be stable at more than 40 billion kilograms.

In the document, Jilin aims to further implement its Straw to Meat Project and Beef Cattle Project, build rural sheds with a total floor space of 30,000 mu and introduce 107 provincial-level "shopping basket program " emergency support bases.

This is all to carry out its black soil protection inspections, build high-standard farmland and undertake comprehensive utilization of saline-alkali land and other farmland reserve resources.

Breakthroughs in key agricultural technologies and the commercialization of sci-tech achievements will be promoted, as well as the green transformation of agriculture.

The province's annual grain output has exceeded 40 billion kilograms for two consecutive years.

Jilin's grain yield per unit area is 470.27 kg/mu, ranking it first among the 10 major grain-producing provinces. The province's black soil conservation tillage area has also expanded to 32.83 million mu, ranking it first in the country.
